Arillo in Terrabianca Campaccio “Collezione” Toscana IGT 2014 Vinous 01/09/2021 91
Verbiage

The 2014 Campaccio Selezione is a terrific wine for what was a very challenging year. Bright cherry, kirsch, new leather, licorice, French oak and spice lend vibrancy to this lithe yet well-balanced red. I would not push my luck on aging, but there is no doubt the Campaccio Selezione is a winner in 2014. -Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sept. 2021

Arillo in Terrabianca Campaccio Toscana IGT 2016 Vinous 01/09/2021 92
Verbiage

The 2016 Campaccio is clearly a wine from a previous era at the estate. Ample and rich in feel, the 2016 powers through with copious black plum, chocolate, mocha and sweet oak. There is plenty of depth, but the 2016 also feels a bit heavy. Even so, the 2016 is nicely done in its style. It will be interesting to see what the new owners do with their flagship Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend.” -Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sept. 2021

Cignale Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT 2017 James Suckling 20/08/2021 95
Verbiage

Blackberries, blueberries and lavender with some sandalwood. Some roses, too. Full-bodied and very tight with linear, racy tannins. I like the intensity and focus. Very cool for a 2017. Drink or hold.” -James Suckling, Jul. 2021

Very fragrant and refreshing with some dried cranberry, rhubarb and citrus on both the nose and palate. Medium-bodied and crisp with some attractive phenolics that give it texture. Drink now.  -James Suckling, Jul. 2021

Le Casematte Nanuci Terre Siciliane IGP 2019 James Suckling 07/08/2021 92
Verbiage

A generous Sicilian red with lots of ripe red-berry and dark-cherry character, together with aromas and flavors of orange peel and bright spice. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh, sour-cherry finish. Drink now.

Le Casematte Peloro Bianco Sicilia DOC 2020 James Suckling 05/08/2021 92
Verbiage

A very pretty, well-balanced white that makes a good introduction to young Sicilian white! Aromas of fresh pears with floral notes and a twist of caper. Medium body with well-poised fruit and acidity, providing a naturally long finish. Drink now.

Tenuta Bellafonte Montefalco Sagrantino “Collenottolo” DOCG 2013 Vinous 01/08/2021 91
Verbiage

Exotic spices give way to dusty black cherry and roses as the 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino Collenottolo unfolds in the glass. The contours are silky and pliant, yet with masses of tart raspberry fruit and saline-mineral tones to balance. A coating of fine tannins lingers, though not so much as to get in the way, as purple inner florals, hints of black tea and citrus resonate through the long, lightly structured finale. The inner perfumes here drive the expression, creating a very pretty Sagrantino that should continue to mature gracefully over the course of the next decade. – Eric Guido, Vinous, Aug. 2021

Tenuta Bellafonte Trebbiano Spoletino Umbria “Arnèto” IGT 2017 Vinous 01/08/2021 91
Verbiage

The 2017 Arneto displays a pale golden color and an enticing bouquet that mixes honeyed florals with ripe melon, mangos and candied ginger. Its textures are weighty, almost glycerol-like, yet balance is maintained, as zesty acids and a more savory display of nectarine and tropical florals form toward the close. There’s a structure here that should promote short-term cellaring, but it doesn’t get in the way of the Arneto’s energy as it tapers off mineral-tinged and exotic. This varietal Trebbiano Spoletino would probably benefit from a short decanting. – Eric Guido, Vinous, Aug. 2021

Hauner Hierà Terre Siciliane IGP 2019 James Suckling 01/08/2021 92
Verbiage

“There’s an earthy edge to the dark cherries on the nose and a slightly rustic acidic lilt on the palate. But there’s no denying the charm of this silky smooth, medium-bodied red with well-integrated tannins and medium length. Drink now.” -James Suckling, Aug. 2021
