“I’m going to write this note in reverse, as the first thing that jumps about the 2023 Rosé Intrigant Miralý is the distinctive finish: earl grey tea, sea salt, bruléed grapefruit and peppermint linger, long and clean. The blend of 45% Syrah, 45% Sangiovese and 10% Vermentino creates an intriguing array of aromas and flavors. The 2023 strikes a great balance of fresh fruit and almost spritzy brightness, absolutely compelling me to take another sip. The Merlot imparts a savory spiciness here that I don’t often find in other Abruzzese Rosatos. Papaya, lychee and pineapple meld with bitter Chinato herbs and rosewater, building into a complex, nuanced Rosé with tons of intrigue. “We commence with the 2021 Etna Bianco Archineri from Pietradolce. My colleague, Eric Guido, is a fan of this wine. One sip, and I understand why. The aromatics offer tantalizing whiffs of the Mediterranean Sea, hints of iodine and green olive, understand yet gaining stature with aeration, just a background scent of dry straw mixed with oyster shell. The palate is extremely well-balanced, saline and focused, and it is fairly penetrating towards the finish.
