Marcarini’s 2016 Barolo Brunate captures much of the mystique of this La Morra site in its beguiling aromatics. Deep, layered and so expressive, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Time in the glass brings out an exotic quality to the red toned fruit, with spice, menthol and floral overtones that linger. The 2017 Barolo Pernanno is laced with cherries in liqueur, dried rose petal, spice, sweet oak, cedar, tobacco and earthy notes. The 2015 Barolo Riserva is a very pretty wine. Effusive aromatics and mid-weight structure give the 2015 tons of immediacy and appeal. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, mint, spice and orange zest add attractive layers of nuance that continue to develop as the wine opens in the glass. The 2017 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a very pretty wine that shows how appealing the vintage is. Pliant and silky, with lifted floral accents, the Terlo is beautifully balanced and inviting from the very first taste. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and mint wrap around the palate as the 2017 shows off its considerable charms. — Antonio Galloni                            Drink    2025 – 2037.                       Feb 2021

The 2017 Barolo Cannubi is sensual and inviting from the very first taste. What the 2017 might lack in terms of structure or complexity it more than makes up for with its open, embracing personality. All the elements come together so effortlessly. Sweet red/purplish fruit, rose petal, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco build as this creamy, resonant Barolo develops in the glass. The 2017 Barolo Bussia is complex and ethereal in the glass. A whole range of floral and spiced notes give the Bussia its striking aromatic presence. Silky and harmonious, the Bussia is already very easy to enjoy. Even so, my impression is that the 2017 is holding back some of its potential. I would give it a few years in bottle. The 2016 Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is just as gorgeous as it always has been. Dark and translucent, the 2016 possesses striking layers of complexity. Spice, menthol, leather, sage and tobacco lend compelling nuance throughout. Although the 2016 is fabulous, it has also started to close down in bottle to a greater degree than I original envisaged. The 2017 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped is deep, resonant and expansive, as wines from this site tend to be. In this tasting, the Mosconi is wonderfully deep. Its stature alone is compelling. And yet there is so much to the Mosconi. Readers will find a Barolo that melds together a rich, racy expression of fruit with plenty of structure that wraps everything together. Rich red fruit, blood orange, tar, spice and cedar build as the 2017 gains volume through to the finish. — Antonio Galloni                             Drink  2025 – 2037.             Feb 2021
