“The 2021 Etna Rosso Santo Spirito smolders up with a spicy blend of incense, clove, dried rose and crushed woodland berry. It is silken and elegant in feel, with ripe red and blue fruits that envelop the senses under an air of violet inner florals. Fine-grained tannins coat the palate through the long and structured finish as a hint of sour citrus and tart cherry pinch at the cheeks. “The 2015 Etna Rosso Archineri is dark and brooding yet expressive all the same. It mixes autumnal spices with cherry sauce, tobacco and mentholated herbs. There’s a vivid inner sweetness here, offset by saline minerals and hints of clove as depths of red berry fruit penetrate deeply. There’s still energy in the glass. Soothingly round yet mineral in style, it cascades across the palate with ripe red and black fruits guided by brisk acidity. Youthfully tense and grippy, this leaves a staining of primary concentration and edgy tannins offset by nuances of sour citrus. “Dried black cherries mix with cedary spice, mint and nuances of cocoa as the 2015 Etna Rosso Barbagalli opens with its dusty and maturing bouquet. This is soft and pliant with tart red and black berry fruits, yet it lacks the power and drive of better vintages. Rosy inner florals linger along with minerals and slightly edgy tannins. The 2015 finishes with good freshness. It suffers from being tasted next to the 2016, but the 2015 is still a beautiful interpretation of Barbagalli.” -Eric Guido

“The 2023 Etna Rosso Pietradolce is a dark and brooding effort with a whiff of flowery underbrush and ashen stone giving way to crushed black cherry. Silky smooth, it sweeps across the palate with ripe wild berry fruit and a collage of sweet spice, all guided by juicy acidity. The 2023 leaves a saturation of primary concentration and a tinge of tart blackberry while finishing with tension. This is far from an easy-drinking, simple Rosso.
