Pietradolce Etna Rosso Barbagalli DOC 2020 Vinous 30/05/2025 95
Verbiage

“An array of violet and lavender florals give way to woodland berries, cedar shavings and sage as the darkly floral 2020 Etna Rosso Barbagalli blossoms in the glass. This soothes with soft textures and ripe wild berry fruits as cool-toned acidity adds lift and an air of rose resonates throughout. Exceptionally long, structured and classically dry, the 2020 tapers off perfumed with a saturation of licorice that provides a pleasantly bitter bite. This is the best young edition of Barbagalli from Pietradolce to date.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Archineri Etna Bianco DOC 2022 Vinous 30/05/2025 94
Verbiage

Spicy to the core, the 2022 Etna Bianco Archineri evolves with zests of lemon mixing with rosemary, ginger and a soothing note of wet stone. Soft and round, yet with salty minerals that add a vertical feel, it washes across the palate with pure white pit fruits as vibrant acidity refreshes the senses. Pleasantly chewy and long, this leaves a hint of nectarine and a sensation of slate through the complex finish.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Contrada Santo Spirito Etna Rosso DOC 2021 Vinous 30/05/2025 94
Verbiage

“The 2021 Etna Rosso Santo Spirito smolders up with a spicy blend of incense, clove, dried rose and crushed woodland berry. It is silken and elegant in feel, with ripe red and blue fruits that envelop the senses under an air of violet inner florals. Fine-grained tannins coat the palate through the long and structured finish as a hint of sour citrus and tart cherry pinch at the cheeks. This is a beautiful Santo Spirito with a bright future ahead of it.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Etna Rosso Barbagalli DOC 2017 Vinous 30/05/2025 94
Verbiage

“The dark and sleek 2017 Etna Rosso Barbagalli opens with a mentholated freshness, displaying crushed red plums, blackberries, savory herbs and white smoke. This shows the warmth of the vintage through its masses of ultra-ripe red and black fruits, yet balance is achieved through cool-toned acidity as a tinge of balsamic spice embellishes the close. Grippy and saturating, the 2017 lingers incredibly long and still tannic.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Archineri Etna Rosso DOC 2015 Vinous 30/05/2025 94
Verbiage

“The 2015 Etna Rosso Archineri is dark and brooding yet expressive all the same. It mixes autumnal spices with cherry sauce, tobacco and mentholated herbs. There’s a vivid inner sweetness here, offset by saline minerals and hints of clove as depths of red berry fruit penetrate deeply. There’s still energy in the glass. The 2015 tapers off with rosy florals, a pleasant sour citrus twang and a sense of classical dryness.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Feudo di Mezzo Etna Rosso DOC 2021 Vinous 30/05/2025 93
Verbiage

“The 2021 Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo is perfumed throughout, with rose and violet tones complementing crushed blackberries as a whiff of sweet sage adds lovely lift. It splashes across the palate with a playful feel, soft and fleshy, with a core of zippy acidity and verve to its tart wild berry fruits. Crisp mineral tones mix with raspberry and spice as this finishes long and only slightly tannic, leaving an incredibly fresh impression.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Etna Rosso Contrada Rampante DOC 2021 Vinous 30/05/2025 93
Verbiage

“The 2021 Etna Rosso Rampante is sweetly spiced with a confectionary bouquet of cedar box, incense and clove that envelops notes of blood orange and black cherry. Soothingly round yet mineral in style, it cascades across the palate with ripe red and black fruits guided by brisk acidity. Youthfully tense and grippy, this leaves a staining of primary concentration and edgy tannins offset by nuances of sour citrus. It’s a lively and spry Rampante that is a bit unruly yet enjoyable all the same.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Etna Rosso Barbagalli DOC 2015 Vinous 30/05/2025 93
Verbiage

“Dried black cherries mix with cedary spice, mint and nuances of cocoa as the 2015 Etna Rosso Barbagalli opens with its dusty and maturing bouquet. This is soft and pliant with tart red and black berry fruits, yet it lacks the power and drive of better vintages. Rosy inner florals linger along with minerals and slightly edgy tannins. The 2015 finishes with good freshness. It suffers from being tasted next to the 2016, but the 2015 is still a beautiful interpretation of Barbagalli.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Etna Rosso DOC 2023 Vinous 30/05/2025 92
Verbiage

“The 2023 Etna Rosso Pietradolce is a dark and brooding effort with a whiff of flowery underbrush and ashen stone giving way to crushed black cherry. Silky smooth, it sweeps across the palate with ripe wild berry fruit and a collage of sweet spice, all guided by juicy acidity. The 2023 leaves a saturation of primary concentration and a tinge of tart blackberry while finishing with tension. This is far from an easy-drinking, simple Rosso. It should excel through medium-term cellaring.” -Eric Guido

Pietradolce Archineri Etna Rosso DOC 2021 Vinous 30/05/2025 92
Verbiage

“The 2021 Etna Rosso Archineri is wrapped up tight in its youthful state as dusty rose and raspberry aromas are complicated by a whiff of ash and flowery underbrush. This is dense and complex, with silken textures and masses of tart wild berry fruits motivated by a core of tantalizing acidity. Incredibly spicy and long, the 2021 leaves behind a coating of fine tannins and a sour cranberry resonance as hints of licorice fade.” -Eric Guido
