The 755 closes up like an iron vault through the finish, spicy and tannic, with a bitter resonance of black currant and cocoa that fades slowly. Made with fruit from the estate’s youngest vines (aged from 15 to 30 years old), the Pietradolce 2023 Etna Rosso has an informal personality that points to freshness and primary fruit. Winemaking is simple, with fermentation in steel and a very brief three months in French oak. That oak adds more to the overall integration of the wine and is virtually invisible otherwise. Dark cherry, cassis, plum and smoky volcanic ash emerge from the bouquet. This is a 24,000-bottle release.

Menthol, wild rose, red berry and spice aromas shape the nose on the supremely elegant 2021 La Serra from Marcarini. It’s radiant and savory, delivering strawberry, cranberry and star anise before a minty finish. It’s still young and well balanced, with taut, refined tannins and fresh acidity. Drink 2031-2041. Made from 100-year-old ungrafted vines, a rarity in the wine world, the extraordinary 2023 Boschi di Berri Dolcetto d’Alba captivates with its pronounced aromas of mature wild berry, camphor, fragrant blue flower and layers of dark spice. Delicious and enveloping, the smooth palate has a glycerine-like texture that wraps around ripe Marasca cherry, raspberry, nutmeg and white pepper.
