The Torraccia del Piantavigna 2019 Colline Novaresi Bianco Erba Voglio is a light, luminous and transparent white that opens to a very pale straw appearance. The wine’s color saturation is very low key. On the nose, you get grass and citrus with kiwi, honey and bitter almond. That honey-like aroma is the glue that keeps the bouquet together. There is a point of sweetness on the close that adds to a very brief point of creaminess on the mid-palate. I love that combination of fresh citrus and crushed mineral. The indigenous grape used here is Erbaluce (or Greco Novarese). Hey, I just found my summer picnic wine. -Monica Larner

The Torraccia del Piantavigna 2015 Ghemme (made with a blend of 90% Nebbiolo and 10% Vespolina) takes you on a terrific aromatic ride that starts off with an immediate hit of mint or medicinal herb and then veers toward wild berry, rose and pressed violet. That sudden transition between those two sides gives a jolt of energy to the wine.
