Lagaria

The UNESCO World Heritage site describes the Dolomites as “some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere”, an honor that confirms how geologically unique this northeastern corner of Italy is.  The high altitudes, ideal ventilation, cool nights and warm days of the Dolomitic foothills give Trentino wines especially fragrant and complex aromas.

The Lagaria range takes its name from the Val Lagarina, a valley where the winery is located.  It has three northeastern appellations – Trentino DOC, delle Venezie IGT and Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT – and one exotic outsider, the Merlot Sicilia IGT.

Everything about these wines is joyful.  Their crystal-clear, brilliant colors glisten in the glass and even their labels stand out thanks to a label design by one of Italy’s most exciting illustrators, Stefano Riboli.

With this line, Neil and Maria Empson hoped to highlight the quality of the terroir, making accessible, easy-to-drink and affordable wines.  They created these fruity, fragrant, well-balanced  beauties whose medium to full body and smooth texture gently highlight any meal, any day.

In May 2005, an intense red from sultry Sicily was added to the line of crisp Lagaria whites from northeastern Italy’s cool Alpine valleys.  This Mediterranean island – rich in aromas, colors and flavors – is one of the country’s most exciting new frontiers in winemaking innovation, and the Empsons felt its zest would beautifully complement the Trentino terroirs.

Then in 2010, Lagaria celebrated the UNESCO World Heritage Site honor by adding a fourth denomination, the new, prestigious Vigneti delle Dolomiti (“Vineyards of the Dolomites”) IGT, from high altitudes and especially cool, ventilated microclimates.
